I Want a New Drug by Huey Lewis and the News was released on January 3, 1984, with Finally Found a Home as the B side. It was the second single from the band’s third album Sports.

The song reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was one of four U.S. Top 40 hits from Sports, along with If This Is It, Heart and Soul, and Walking on a Thin Line. It also reached the Top 10 in Canada.

According to songfacts.com, Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for stealing the melody from I Want a New Drug on Parker’s hit Ghosbusters. It was settled out of court.
